ENGAGEMENT RINGS
Gold Prices: Then & Now
It’s hard to believe I’ve been making jewelry for almost 10 years now. It’s been a crazy, yet incredibly exciting journey! Through sleepless nights and countless hours perfecting tiny details, every piece has been made with so much heart and dedication to ensure it’s special and meaningful. Meanwhile, gold prices have also been on their own wild ride, reaching quite an extraordinary level today.
Anyone who has followed my journey from the beginning knows that my goal has always been to offer a high-quality product (or service, back when I was still tattooing) while keeping it as affordable as possible. I’ve tried to hold off on price increases and absorb rising costs myself—balancing material expenses, labor, and, well, a little bit of the soul of this small artisan business, which is deeply rooted in local spirit and identity. But with the current prices, a price increase seems inevitable.
Gold Prices: Then & Now
When I started making jewelry, the price of gold per ounce in euros was entirely different than it is today.
Here’s a quick comparison:
– 10 years ago, in 2014: Gold cost around €970 per ounce
– Today: The price fluctuates around €2,520 per ounce.
That’s quite a jump! And it’s not just gold—every other cost has steadily, but consistently, risen as well. Every piece of jewelry I create is designed and handcrafted here in Estonia. My (or should I say our, since it’s now a family business) jewelry doesn’t come off a production line or rely on foreign cheap labor—it’s all made here with care, love, and dedication.
What does this mean for pricing?
The reality is that due to the increase in material and other costs, combined with my unwavering commitment to quality (which I’m not willing to compromise on), a price increase is imminent. Starting from the new year, there will be some changes to pricing. How much exactly? I can’t say just yet. I know it may sound daunting, and believe me, I truly understand. That’s exactly why I wanted to give you a heads-up in advance. If you’ve been eyeing a ring or thinking about placing an order, now would be a good time to finalize it. This isn’t a sales tactic, just an honest truth. I’ve always aimed to be transparent and straightforward with my customers.
Why are handmade jewelry pieces worth it?
A handmade piece of jewelry is not just an accessory – it’s a work of art, a story, and a little piece of my soul (yes, a bit cliché, but true). Each piece carries a story from start to finish, turning raw material into a beautiful symbol meant to last a lifetime. For me, the effort, time, and cost (sometimes even the stress) have always been worth it. Thank you for being a part of this journey and supporting a small Estonian brand that believes in doing things the right way, even when it’s not always the easiest or cheapest option. And remember, if you’ve had your eye on something specific, now is the perfect time to grab it before the price changes in the new year. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
All the best, Vunts & Co
