When to order an engagement ring? The timeline that saves the proposal

Order a handmade engagement ring at least six weeks before the proposal. That covers finding out the size (up to a week), the making itself (2–4 weeks), delivery (a couple of days), and slack for surprises. If your date is already set, calculate your exact order-by week with the proposal planner — it counts the steps backwards from your day.
Why handmaking takes 2–4 weeks
Every ring is cast, finished and set to order, in your size and metal. It is not picked from a shelf — which is why it fits at the first try and why the proportions, setting and engraving are exactly yours. The only way to hurry is at the cost of quality, and we do not do that.
The timeline, backwards
- 6+ weeks out: choose the ring or book a consultation. There is still time for fully custom work.
- 5 weeks out: size confirmed (the on-screen sizer or a quick atelier visit), order placed.
- 1–2 weeks out: ring finished; delivery or atelier pickup.
- The day: the ring has been in your pocket for days already.
The seasons that surprise people
Two periods fill a goldsmith's calendar faster than expected: Christmas and New Year (the most popular proposal window — December orders are best placed by early November) and midsummer to August. If your date falls in either, add a week.
When there is too little time
Honestly: with under three weeks to go, a made-to-order ring will not be ready. But the proposal does not have to wait. Ask what is finished at the atelier — or propose with a placeholder ring and choose the real one together. That is not a compromise: couples who choose together get exactly what she truly wants, and the moment itself depends on no lead time at all.
